The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found the quality of care provided by Trinity Court Surgery, to be Outstanding following an inspection carried out in March 2015.

The practice is located in the NHS South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) area and provides a range of general medical services to approximately 16,800 registered patients in approximately 120 square miles in and around Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire.

Inspectors found that the practice was providing a safe, caring, effective, responsive and well-led service that meets the needs of the population it serves.

A full report of the inspection has now been published.

Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all England’s GP practices are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

The report on Trinity Court Surgery highlights a number of areas of outstanding practice, including:

  • The practice had very effective assessment, care planning and recall arrangements for patients. This meant their admission rates for some long term conditions, and accident and emergency admissions were significantly below the national average.
  • The practice had upskilled one of their nurses to support a project with Warwick Hospital to improve outcomes for patients with left ventricular failure (LVF), a potentially serious heart condition. The project was set up in line with a NICE initiative to improve accurate diagnosis and outcomes for patients.
  • The practice worked closely with its patient participation groups (PPGs) and included them in discussions about the future of the practice. They had also worked in partnership with the PPG to provide a medicines delivery service to patients who are unable to travel due to health and mobility difficulties.

Janet Williamson, Deputy Chief Inspector of General Practice and Dentistry in CQC’s Central region said:

“It is clear that Trinity Court Surgery is providing an effective and responsive service which is a real asset to the people living in this part of Warwickshire.

“The practice was committed to ensuring they were the first point of call for patients, and sought to reduce the need for unnecessary hospital admissions. It was excellent to see the involvement and integration of community working from supporting local care homes and subsidising the on-site coffee shop to arranging with the local patient participation groups to deliver medication to those that could not travel to the practice easily.

“We found that the practice displayed an excellent understanding of the differing needs of their patients and staff demonstrated a commitment to help and support them. It worked well with other service providers to meet patients' needs and manage those of patients with complex needs.

“All of this hard work pays off in making a real difference to patients – which is why we have found this practice to be Outstanding.”
