Somerset care at home service rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found the quality of care provided by Blue Moon Care Limited in Taunton, Somerset to be Outstanding following an inspection in September 2016.

Inspectors rated the care at home service as Outstanding for being caring and responsive to people’s needs, and Good for being safe, effective and well-led.

Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:

“We found that Blue Moon Care Limited delivered Outstanding care with a person centred culture that was committed to putting people at the heart of everything they do. We were impressed by how the staff empowered people to live fulfilled lives and supported people to achieve their goals. The team there were skilled, thoughtful and kind and should be extremely proud of the work they do.”

“The care at home service is excellent and this is why this service has received the highest rating we can give.”

The report highlights a number of areas of outstanding practice, including:

  • The service enabled and assisted people to find solutions and overcome obstacles in order to live a full a life as possible by supporting people’s interests and wellbeing.
  • People were supported by staff to work towards their goals. One person was being supported to achieve their master’s degree and another to complete a computer course.
  • The service involved people in the recruitment of staff, from shortlisting to the interview and the registered manager told us that it was down to the clients who they’d employ.
  • Care was planned, delivered and personalised to each person. Staff monitored and adapted people’s healthcare according to individuals changing needs.
  • The service were thoughtful and treated people with respect, Hello and Goodbye cards were left for people to show that they had visited if a person was asleep when they visited.
