The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found the quality of care provided by The Park Medical Practice in Chaddesden, Derbyshire, to be Outstanding following an inspection carried out in December 2014.
Inspectors found that the practice was providing an innovative, caring, effective, responsive and well-led service that meets the needs of the population it serves.

Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all England’s GP practices are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.
The report on The Park Medical Practice highlighted a number of areas of outstanding practice, including:
- The practice holds the Quality Practice Award from the Royal College of General Practitioners. This is the highest attainable award available from the college and the accreditation process encourages and supports practices to deliver the highest quality of care.
- High importance was placed on patient empowerment, education and self-management of their health needs, with a focus on long-term conditions. Patients with diabetes received a copy of their review form and test results prior to attending reviews to enable them to prepare.
- The practice was proactive in reaching out to patients who were reluctant to attend the surgery. It campaigns for men to see a GP about any health issues, or advice on lifestyle changes. This resulted in an additional 286 men attending the practice between June and August 2014.
- There were high levels of engagement with patients and the Patient Participation Group (PPG) to improve services. The practice and the PPG held two health awareness events for all its patient population, involving various external organisations.

“It is clear that The Park Medical Practice is providing an effective and well led service which is a real asset to the people living in this part of Derbyshire.
“Feedback from patients and clinical teams was positive and many commented that staff went above and beyond their level of duty and that the practice had a positive working atmosphere.
“Staff demonstrated a commitment to help support patients to live healthier lives and helped to support patients who were vulnerable or who simply needed extra advice and help beyond the normal call of duty.
“All of this hard work pays off in making a real difference for their patients – which is why we have found this practice to be Outstanding.”
The Park Medical Practice is a partnership between ten GPs and the practice manager providing primary medical services to 25,329 patients. The main practice is in Chaddesden in Derby, with a branch surgery at the University of Derby and Borrowash in Derbyshire.
