The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Merevale House Residential Home in Warwickshire, West Midlands to be Outstanding following an inspection carried out in August. #
Merevale House Residential Home is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to 31 people. There are three buildings at the location which provide specialist care for people living with different types of dementia. Merevale House provides care primarily for older people living with dementia, Merevale Lodge provides care primarily for younger people living with dementia, and 5th Lock Cottage provides care to people living with alcohol related dementia.

Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.
The report on Merevale House Residential Home highlights innovative and creative practice used by staff and a clear commitment by managers to continually improve. All of the people receiving care inspectors spoke with were highly complementary about the care and treatment provided and there was a very positive atmosphere across all services.
The premises were very well maintained. A visiting professional told us, “The bedrooms are beautiful, it is the little detail – each person has something that belongs to them.”
Sue Howard, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care in CQC’s Central region, said:
“We found that people living at this home and their relatives were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of their care. The two registered managers shared a passion for working with people living with dementia.
“Inspectors found many examples of the home’s management implementing innovative approaches to ensure care was delivered to a high standard.
“People were actively encouraged to be part of the local community, and likewise, people from the local community and professionals wishing to learn more about dementia care, were welcomed into the home and encouraged to learn more about good dementia care.
“The management culture of the home was dedicated to providing excellent care to people, and equipping staff to provide excellent care. Standards were high, and staff responded to this well.
“The management and staff should be proud of the great service they are providing to ensure residents receive the best care possible to suit their specific needs.”
