All systems go for Primary Medical Services management team

Recruitment across the management team for Primary Medical Services has been taking place over recent months and the full team is now almost in place.

Sarah Seaholme – Deputy Chief Inspector (Interim), London
Sarah was appointed as an interim Deputy Chief Inspector and our national lead for Registration across primary health care in June 2014. Sarah, a trained podiatrist, moves from her current post as the Head of GP Inspection for London.

Janet Williamson – Deputy Chief Inspector, Central
Janet joined CQC in April 2014 as a Deputy Chief Inspector, following her previous role as Director of National Improvement Programmes for NHS Improving Quality. Janet is also CQC's national lead for dentistry and integration across health and social care.

Sue McMillan – Deputy Chief Inspector, North
Sue was appointed a Deputy Chief Inspector for the North region in April 2014, following her previous Head of Mental Health Policy role. Sue will also lead for CQC on child safeguarding, and health and jusitice (including prisons and detention centres).

Ruth Rankine – Deputy Chief Inspector, South
Ruth joined CQC in June 2014 as Deputy Chief Inspector for the South region. Previously the Director of Strategy at NHS Direct, Ruth is also the CQC lead for medicines management and urgent care.

Professor Nigel Sparrow – Senior National GP Advisor and Responsible Officer
Nigel was appointed in April 2014, following his previous CQC National Professional Advisor role. A practising GP for 30 years, Nigel is the Medical Director for Revalidation at the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and is a member of the RCGP Council and a past vice chair.

Elaine Biscoe – National Practice Nursing Advisor
Elaine joined CQC as the National Nursing Advisor in June 2014. Elaine will be working closely with Nigel Sparrow, whilst maintaining a part time role as a Practice Nurse.

Dr Stephen Richards – Regional GP Advisor, London
Stephen, a currently practising GP, joined CQC in June 2014 as the regional GP Advisor for London. Prior to his CQC role, Stephen was the Chief Executive of the Oxfordshire CCG.

Dr Peter Davies – Regional GP Advisor, North
Peter will join CQC in August 2014 as the regional GP Advisor for the North region. Peter will continue in his roles as the GP Principal in Halifax and as a Board Member at the Calderdale CCG. He is also a member of Council of the RCGP.

Dr Nigel Starey – Regional GP Advisor, South
Nigel will join CQC in August 2014 as the Regional GP Advisor for the South region. Nigel is a locum GP at multiple practices within the South West of England. Nigel was previously a medical director of a PCT in the Midlands.

Dr John Byrne – Regional GP Advisor, Central
John will join CQC in September 2014, as the regional GP Advisor for the Central region. John is currently Clinical Director of Integrated Community Services for Southern Health and a GP in Andover.

Beverley Cole – Head of GP Inspection, North
Beverley was appointed as Head of GP Inspection for the North region in May 2014, following her previous roles as a GP practice manager and inspection manager.

Michele Golden – Head of GP Inspection, South
Michele was appointed as Head of GP Inspection for the South region in May 2014. Michele brings her strong nursing regulatory background to the CQC team.

Vicki Wells – Head of GP Inspection, Central
Vicki was appointed Head of GP Inspection for the Central region in April 2014. Previously, Vicki has held a number of inspection roles within CQC and its predecessor organisation, the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Nigel Thompson – Head of Children and Health & Justice
Nigel was appointed Head of Children and Health & Justice in April 2014. Prior to this, he was the Head of Involvement and Equality, Diversity and Human Rights at the CQC, and has a significant background in working with children’s services, including roles across a number of local authorities.

Sampana Banga – Head of Dentistry
Sam was appointed as the Head of Dentistry in April 2014. Prior to this, he was the Head of Operational Intelligence at the CQC, and the Head of the London and South East Region at CQC’s predecessor organisation, the Healthcare Commission. Sam will be working closely with Debbie Mead.

Debbie Mead – Head of Dentistry
Debbie was appointed Head of Dentistry in April 2014. Previously, she was CQC's Head of Operational Transition. Debbie will be working closely with Sampana Banga.

Carl Marsh – Head of Integration
Carl will join in August 2014 as the Head of Integration. He is currently the Head of Client Operations at Cheshire and Merseyside Clinical Support Unit. Carl has had a number of integrated and planned care roles across Cheshire Council and NHS organisations, as well as being a member of the British Army Medical Services.

Sarah Billington – Head of Medicines Management
Sarah will join in September 2014 as Head of Medicines Management. She is currently the Chief Officer at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Pharmaceutical Committee, and has held senior roles within the General Pharmaceutical Council and Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

Garry Higgins – Directorate Manager
Garry has been appointed Directorate Manager, following is previous role as Primary Medical Services inspector for the Central region. This follows a successful career in the police.
