Review of ‘services for people who have had a stroke and their carers’ 2009/10

What is the review about?

This review looks at the care people receive if they have had a stroke. We are looking at:

  • acute care in hospital, after the initial 'hyper-acute' stage
  • how people who have had a stroke are discharged from hospital
  • whether they have access to rehabilitation in hospital and in the community
  • what ongoing care and support they receive

Which organisations and services will we be looking at?

The review covers all health and social care services that provide care and support to people who have had a stroke and their carers.

We have mainly collected data from Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and adult social services.

What are the key dates for the review?

Data collection started 7 June 2010 and is now closed. This data collection was approved by the Review of Central Returns Steering Committe -ROCR (reference number ROCR-lite/10/0004MAND).

Thank you to everyone who has submitted data for the review. We are now analysing this data. We will publish results for all local areas and a national summary of our findings in autumn 2010. We will then continue to work with services in the poorest performing areas.
