How we involve people

People who use health and social care services are at the heart of the Care Quality Commission's work. We believe that involving the people who use care services will help to improve services for everyone.

There are many different ways we involve and get feedback from people who use services, for example:

Voices into action

We are giving you a bigger say in how the health and social care services that you use should be improved. We are involving people who use care services in everything we do, working to ensure that care services respond to what people tell them.

We asked a lot of people about what should go in our Voices into action statement. This paper says how we consulted people, what they told us and what we are going to do as a result:

How we will use your feedback

We will use the information you give us in different ways throughout the year.

The feedback you give us about your care services will be added to the information we hold about each service provider who needs to register with us. This will help us to:

  • spot problems or concerns in local services that we need to act upon
  • make decisions about whether a service should be registered with us
  • monitor on an ongoing basis whether care services continue to meet the essential standards of quality and safety
  • look at how commissioners of services (like primary care trusts) find out what services people need, and if money is being spent wisely to provide services in the local area
  • check what local councils tell us abut their own performance in their self-assessments in 2010.

Your feedback will also tell us what issues are important to you and what to look at more closely in our special reviews and studies:
