New starters at CQC

Probationary period

All new permanent employees of CQC are subject to a six month probationary period. This allows both the line manager and the employee to assess objectively whether or not they are suitable for the role.

Induction and training

CQC Academy offers everyone the support they need to help us achieve our purpose - to make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and to encourage care services to improve.

All new CQC colleagues:

All new starters undergo one days corporate induction. This is usually London-based so an overnight stay may be necessary. Accommodation and travel are arranged by our Welcome Team.

Home based roles: IT induction

If you are a homeworker, you may need to stay in London for a second day. You will be given an appointment to collect your laptop, ID card and Blackberry.

Inspection staff: inspector induction

This is structured around the core responsibilities of an Inspector: planning, conducting and reporting on inspections.

The curriculum is designed so new employees understand the systems and processes required to become an effective Inspector. An individualised personal development plan, based on the inspector induction framework, will be produced in partnership between employees, their line manager, and the Academy. This will be delivered through a combination of Academy-led taught programmes, shadowing, self-study, and coaching/mentoring from a manager and buddy.
