Find out about our special reviews and studies
25 June 2009
We are responsible for a programme of special reviews and studies under the Health and Social Care Act (2008).
Special reviews and studies are projects that look at themes in health and social care. They focus on services, pathways of care or groups of people.
- A review will usually result in assessments of local health and social care organisations. We will publish either scores or judgments, alongside a national overview report.
- A study will usually result in national-level findings based on our research.
The CQC Board has now agreed seven topics for our reviews and studies for 2009/10 following consultation. These are:
- Meeting the healthcare needs of people in care homes
- The pathway of care for people who have had a stroke and their carers
- Meeting the physical health needs of those with mental health needs and learning disabilities
- Support for families with disabled children
- Commissioning, health promotion and health inequalities
- Social services' response to people's first contact with them
- The impact of the financial downturn on the quality of care
We have already started work on the programme. The first three projects on the list above started during April, and the others will start in July.
During the next few months we will publish further information about our approaches to these topics.
